What materials can a capacitive proximity switch detect?
Unlike inductive sensors that only detect metal, capacitive switches can detect both metallic and non-metallic objects. This includes liquids (water, oil, glue), powders, granules (plastic pellets, grain), glass, ceramics, and wood. They are widely used for level control and presence detection.
Can I detect liquid levels through a tank wall without drilling holes?
Yes, absolutely. This is a key advantage of our capacitive sensors. They can detect liquids inside non-metallic containers (such as plastic, glass, or ceramic tanks) up to a certain wall thickness (usually 4mm-20mm depending on the model). This allows for non-contact level monitoring without contaminating the liquid.
How do I adjust the sensitivity? Why is it necessary?
Most of our capacitive sensors feature a built-in potentiometer. Adjusting sensitivity is crucial to filter out interference (like a thin layer of dust or foam) or to tune the sensor to detect a specific material through a container wall. We provide a tuning screwdriver with every sensor for easy setup.
What is the difference between Inductive and Capacitive sensors?
The main difference is the target. Inductive sensors generate an electromagnetic field to detect metals only. Capacitive sensors generate an electrostatic field to detect any object with a dielectric constant > 1.2. If you need to detect plastic, water, or wood, you must choose Capacitive.
Are your sensors resistant to moisture and dust?
Yes. Our standard capacitive switches are rated IP67. The internal circuitry is fully potted with epoxy resin, protecting it from dust ingress and water immersion. For environments with high chemical exposure (like acids), we also offer models with PTFE (Teflon) housings.
