The Power of Magnetic Fields

Unlike standard proximity sensors, magnetic switches utilize the flux of a permanent magnet to trigger contacts. This allow for sensing through non-magnetic barriers with absolute precision.

Barrier Penetration

Magnetic fields can pass through all non-ferromagnetic materials. XSZ sensors can detect a target even if it is behind a wall of:

  • Stainless Steel (Non-magnetic)
  • Aluminum & Copper
  • Plastic, Glass & Wood
Actual Distance Sn depends on magnet strength (mT).

Dual Technology Logic

Reed Technology (Passive)

No power supply required. Features hermetically sealed glass-to-metal contacts. Best for simple ON/OFF logic and zero-power applications.

Hall Effect (Active)

Solid-state semiconductor sensing. Offers extremely high switching frequencies and infinite mechanical life for high-speed counting.

Sensing Range Optimization

The Variable of Detection Distance

Unlike inductive sensors, the sensing range Sn of a magnetic switch is a function of the actuator's magnetic field strength. Selecting the right magnet material is key to performance.

Factors Influencing Sn

Magnetic Flux Density (mT)

The stronger the magnet's remanence (Br), the further the sensing distance.

Approach Direction

Sensitivity varies depending on whether the magnet approaches axially or laterally.

Barrier Material

Non-ferrous barriers (Aluminum/Plastic) have zero impact, while iron plates will shield the field.

Magnetic Field Decay Law:
B 1 d 3

Field strength B decreases in inverse proportion to the cube of distance d.

Magnet Material Comparison

Neodymium (NdFeB) Highest Sn

Maximum power in minimum size. Best for micro-sensors where space is limited but long distance is required.

Alnico Best Stability

Superior temperature stability (up to 500°C). Preferred for aerospace and foundry applications.

Ferrite Cost Effective

Economical choice for large-scale security and gate sensing where extreme distance is not critical.

Industry Solutions

Proven in Extreme Environments

From deep-sea exploration to high-speed automation, XSZ magnetic sensors provide the "silent reliability" that critical infrastructure demands.

Pneumatic Cylinder Feedback

Pneumatic Cylinder Feedback

Designed to fit standard T-slot and C-slot tracks. Our sensors detect the magnetic ring on the internal piston through the aluminum cylinder wall, providing 100% accurate end-of-stroke signals.

Elevator Positioning

Elevator & Hoist Leveling

Utilizing Bistable Logic, these sensors are ideal for floor leveling. They maintain their state even after a power loss, ensuring the elevator car stays safely positioned relative to the floor magnets.

Underwater Sensing

Submersible & Harsh Sensing

With IP68/IP69K protection and full epoxy encapsulation, our magnetic switches operate reliably in deep-sea equipment or high-pressure wash-down zones in food processing plants.

Safety Gate Monitoring

Security Gate Monitoring

Unlike mechanical switches, magnetic interlocks have no wear parts. They are perfect for safety gates on heavy machinery, operating through grease, dust, and vibration without failure.

Flexible Customization

From specialized cable materials to custom sensitivity thresholds, we ensure our magnetic sensors integrate perfectly with your existing control architecture and environmental demands.

Specialized Cabling

Select the jacket material that matches your workspace:

  • PVC: Standard cost-effective choice for general automation.
  • PUR: High resistance to cutting oils, coolants, and abrasion.
  • Silicone: For extreme thermal environments up to +120°C.

Standard Connectors

We provide plug-and-play solutions for all major PLCs:

  • M8 / M12: 3-pin or 4-pin quick disconnect connectors.
  • Pigtail: Short cable with connector for tight spaces.
  • Flying Leads: Pre-stripped wires for direct terminal connection.

Sensitivity Tuning

If you use a non-standard magnet, we can pre-calibrate the sensor’s switching threshold (mT) at the factory level to ensure 100% repeatability in your specific setup.

Advanced Housing

Beyond standard brass, we offer Stainless Steel 316L for pharmaceutical use or Explosion-proof designs for hazardous petrochemical zones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Expert insights into the selection, installation, and optimization of XSZ magnetic sensing solutions.

What is the advantage of a magnetic switch over an inductive sensor?

+

While inductive sensors detect any metal, magnetic switches only react to magnetic fields. This allows them to "see through" non-ferrous barriers like stainless steel, aluminum, and plastic. Additionally, magnetic switches typically offer much larger sensing distances relative to their housing size.

Should I choose Reed or Hall-effect technology?

+

Choose Reed Type if you need a passive sensor (no power required), high-voltage switching (up to 250V), or simple two-wire logic. Choose Hall-effect for high-speed counting applications, as they are solid-state with no moving parts, offering infinite mechanical life and frequencies up to 1,000 Hz.

Why is my sensing distance ($S_n$) inconsistent?

+

In magnetic sensing, $S_n$ is directly proportional to the magnetic flux ($mT$) of your actuator. If the distance is too short, you may need a stronger magnet (e.g., switching from Ferrite to Neodymium). Also, ensure the magnet is approaching the sensor's sensitive axis; lateral approach usually results in a shorter range than axial approach.

What is a "Bistable" magnetic switch?

+

A bistable switch maintains its output state even after the magnet has passed. It requires a reverse polarity magnet (e.g., South pole after North pole) to reset. This is a critical feature for elevator positioning and hoist limit controls to ensure safety during power outages.

Can magnetic switches operate in oily or submerged environments?

+

Absolutely. Because the sensing elements are hermetically sealed in glass (Reed) or epoxy (Hall) within a robust housing, our IP68-rated sensors are completely immune to cutting oils, dust, and can operate under water pressure without signal degradation.

Need help matching a magnet to a sensor?

Our engineers can calculate the required flux density (mT) based on your target air gap and material barriers.
