Customer Success Stories

From liquid level control to wood and plastic detection, our capacitive proximity switches are the industry standard for versatile automation.

★★★★★

"We needed to monitor chemical levels without corrosive liquids touching the sensor. The XSZ capacitive switch allowed us to detect the level through the HDPE tank wall perfectly. The adjustable sensitivity meant we could tune out the condensation on the outside of the tank. Excellent performance!"

★★★★★

"Detecting transparent glass panels on our assembly line was a nightmare with optical sensors. Switching to XSZ's capacitive sensors solved it instantly. Because it detects the material's dielectric properties rather than light reflection, the accuracy is 100% regardless of the glass thickness or clarity."

★★★★★

"In our grain processing facility, dust buildup is a constant issue. These switches are rugged enough to handle the vibration and the IP67 sealing keeps them running even during washdowns. We use them for hopper full/empty detection and they haven't failed once in two years."

Technical FAQ: Capacitive Proximity Switches

What is the difference between Inductive and Capacitive proximity switches?
Inductive sensors use a magnetic field and can only detect metallic objects. Capacitive sensors, however, use an electrostatic field. This allows them to detect both metallic and non-metallic materials, including liquids, glass, plastic, wood, and even organic matter like food or grain.
Can capacitive sensors detect liquid levels through a container wall?
Yes, this is one of their primary advantages. If the container is made of a non-metallic material (like plastic or glass) and the wall is relatively thin, the capacitive sensor can be tuned to "see through" the wall and detect the liquid inside. This is ideal for non-contact level monitoring in chemical or food industries.
What is the "Dielectric Constant" and why does it matter?
The Dielectric Constant (εr) determines how easily a material can be detected. Materials with a high dielectric constant (like Water, εr ≈ 80) are much easier to detect at longer distances than materials with a low dielectric constant (like Plastic, εr ≈ 3, or Wood, εr ≈ 2-7). Metals have an effectively infinite dielectric constant and are the easiest to detect.
How do I adjust the sensitivity of the sensor?
Most of our capacitive switches feature a multi-turn potentiometer on the back. By turning this, you can increase or decrease the sensing range. This allows you to calibrate the sensor to ignore specific objects (like a plastic tank wall or dust buildup) while triggering only when the target material (like the liquid inside) reaches the sensing face.
What is the difference between Shielded (Flush) and Unshielded (Non-flush) mounting?
Shielded (Flush) sensors have a metal band around the head that directs the electrostatic field straight forward, allowing them to be mounted flush with a metal surface. Unshielded (Non-flush) sensors have a wider sensing field that spreads to the sides. They offer longer sensing distances but must be mounted with clear space around the sensor head to avoid false triggers.
How do environmental factors like humidity or dust affect performance?
Because water has a very high dielectric constant, excessive humidity or liquid droplets on the sensor face can cause false triggers. To combat this, our high-end series includes compensation electrodes that help the sensor ignore thin films of moisture or dust, ensuring the sensor only reacts to the actual target material.
Which output type should I choose: NPN or PNP?
This depends on your control system (PLC). PNP (Sourcing) outputs are common in Europe and North America, where the load is connected to the negative terminal and the sensor provides the positive voltage. NPN (Sinking) outputs are more common in Asia, where the sensor connects the load to the negative terminal (Ground). Always check your PLC's wiring requirements before ordering.
Are these sensors suitable for high-temperature environments?
Our standard capacitive switches are rated for -25°C to +70°C. For applications involving high-heat processes, such as plastic extrusion or industrial ovens, we offer specialized High-Temperature Series that can withstand environments up to 120°C or higher using specialized housing materials like PTFE (Teflon).
